I've been asked to post the following on behalf of the Transition Tennessee Steering Group, of which I have been a member.
While there are over fifty people listed on Transition Tennessee, there has been only a very small core local to each other, cooperating together and actively focused on the transition model (most of these were also Transition Tennessee's first members). This core recently took step #1 in the Transition Model and formed a steering committee. We've been in communication for a bit, and our meeting this weekend was designed to finish work on a mission, agenda and schedule for Transition Tennessee–following the Transition Model–which we intended to post to the group today.
We did meet with each other over the weekend; however, we instead discussed where our hearts are with regards to our current role in Transition Tennessee. We each concluded that none of us desires to attempt to lead Transition Tennessee inside the current push-pull climate now occurring as different members try to take the group in different directions.
It has been critical timing – a precise and pivotal growth point in moving Transition Tennessee from an unfocused online affiliation to an action-oriented, physically viable group with a clearly stated mission and road-map. Unfortunately, confusion and splintering has occurred instead of cohesion and respect for the existing leadership.
We aren't interested in competing or creating a sense of competition as we attempt to establish a positive movement. We aren't interested in trying to swim against the tide of personal agendas. We're either all on the same page or we're not. It seems there is some misunderstanding about our goals and a lack of trust about the necessary timing involved in forming a solid Transition group. We feel too much of our energy might be wasted trying to build a coalition within a fractured zone such as still lingers in Chattanooga.
The city vibe will continue to evolve, so we look forward to the things we can be a part of as we all grow and focus on the things that call us. We'll still continue membership here and watch with high hopes as perhaps others will step up to work with the Transition model's focus on egalitarian outreach, awareness education, reskilling, and knitting together of individual resources inside our various local communities.
With this we are stepping down from our role as steering committee and submit leadership of this group to whatever the consensus chooses for its future. Should anyone now or in the future desire to take the helm, please let me know your contact info so I can pass to you the site admin access and let the national transition groups we've been working with know who is taking our place.
